"Cold Dark Room" Press Release

My new single, “Cold Dark Room” is officially out!

We all want to help those we love going through a hard time, but we rarely know what to do or say. Even though it is tempting to want to try to “fix” the situation for those going through grief, depression, etc. - the best, yet often the hardest, thing we can do is just BE with them in that place.

After my mom died, I spent the better part of a decade pushing people away and trying to convince everyone, including myself, that I was fine. So my prayer for this song is that it helps others know how to love better, but also that it inspires us all to let others love us by letting them enter our “cold dark rooms.”

You can listen to Cold Dark Room on all major platforms!

I picked up production for this song in early March of 2021 and decided that I wanted to return to my original instrument - the piano. I loved learning ‘drum theory’ in my production class, so I figured I would keep this production much more simple than Light a Candle for me and just stick with piano and drums.

As you can imagine, production always takes longer than planned due to the many unexpected twists and turns that come up, but the song was officially completed on April 14th and released to the world on April 23rd, 2021.

There are several differences between this song and my first release, and I am so excited to keep pushing my comfort zone boundaries as I move onto my next one.

If you want to be the first to hear about my upcoming music, be sure to tune into my show / catch the replay!

Behind the song:

I first had the loose idea for this song back in 2019, but I didn’t have a chorus figured out yet. In fact, I had even considered simply having an “ooooo” section for the song and to keep the song slower. Well! I am so glad I didn’t. A few friends that I shared the slow version to said, “I think it needs an uplifting chorus,” and they were right.

So over 2020 I pondered on what that chorus would be and towards the end of the year I had it nailed down. I didn’t know what I wanted the production to look like at that time, and with Light a Candle For Me plus its free workbook about to be released, Cold Dark Room got put on the back burner for awhile.
